The stated purpose of Gospel Assembly Church is:
- "...to preach, and teach, the gospel of Jesus Christ, for the promotion of religious education,
- to encourage Christian principles and character in the lives of men and women,
- to conduct religious worship services, and the administration of Sacerdotal functions and general practices necessary to the functioning of Gospel Assembly Church."
"For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding." Proverbs 2:6. All knowedge originates with God! God is omniscient! When God created Adam and Eve they possessed comprehensive knowledge, given by God at creation, that enabled them to reason over God's commands.
Reasoning is impossible without knowledge. Adam was commanded to "dress" and "keep" and "subdue" the earth. Genesis 1:28 and 2:15. Adam was given the right to name all the animals and birds of God's great creation. Genesis 2:19-20. Adam even named his wife "Eve; because she was the mother of all living." Genesis 3:20. This certainly implied knowledge possessed at his creation. It was God's plan that knowledge, which not only included an understanding of God, but also basic academic values of mathematics, reading, writing, language -- including word skills, science and history should be taught by the father to the child. Humanism, and a false dualism were not to exist. Life was not to be divided into the secular and the sacred! But all learning was to apply to the whole of life! God was to be at the center of man's understanding and his life!
Man could not even tithe without an understanding of mathematics. It was from the father to the son this original God-imparted knowledge was to be taught and received. "For I know him (Abraham), that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment...." Genesis 18:19. This also implied the educational principles of self-discipline and subordination on the part of the child. "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way and when thou risest up." Deuteronomy 6:5-7.
A God-centered education was to be taught diligently and daily by the parent to the child. Let us remember - this is God's way of transferring knowledge. "From the father to the children..." Psalms 78:5 True education is learning how to live! To see life from God's point of view! "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6. This cannot be obtained by creating a false dualism in the child's mind. He must see God at the center of his life and in all his learning and achievements. The three key elements which shaped America's culture were the church, the Bible and the pastor. The first school in America was conducted in the church.
The Bible was the textbook. Thepastor was the teacher. America grew and prospered under God. By the end of the Civil War around 1865, nine out of ten students were in private or parochial schools and only one out of ten was in a public school. However, the public schools gained momentum and by 1900, nine out of ten students were in a public school while only one out of ten was still in a private or parochial school. America transgressed the basic concepts and commandments of God concerning the training of our children.
The state assumed the prerogatives of education that God gave the parents and the church. By 1900 the Bible was still on the desk of the public school teacher, but around 1920 the philosophies of the Fabian Socialists invaded our campuses. Today the Bible has been taken out of the schools. Where do we go from here? Martin Luther said in his "Appeal to the German Nobility" June 23, 1520: "I am much afraid that the universities will prove to be the great gates of hell, unless they diligently labour in explaining the Holy Scriptures, and engraving them in the hearts of youth. I advise no one to place his child where the scriptures do not reign paramount. Every institution in which men are not unceasingly occupied with the word of God must become corrupt."
We, today, have lived to see this prophetic utterance of Martin Luther come to pass. Drugs, insolence, rebellion, immorality, permissiveness, withcraft, insubordination and aimless indifference are characteristics of the younger generation, while perversion is tolerated in the name of academic freedom. Where do we go from here if we want to properly train our children and save them for the Lord Jesus Christ? Back to the Bible and the principles it contains. Let the church assume the prerogatives originally delegated to it by God. It is said that in the days of Jesus there was one synagogue for every 12 families. There it is! The church and the home working together to "train up the child in the way he should go."
Under the first amendment, Congress can make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting its free exercise thereof. Therefore, we are not seeking the state approval or accreditation for our school. We do not want our church to be approved or accredited by the state. We do not want to be part of a state approved church.....and the same goes for the christian school. Accreditation by a state governmental agency is an administrative mechanism designed to ascertain uniform education for all children in secular schools. It is established as a governmental means of causing local public school districts to provide what the state educational agencies determine as minimum academic and facility standards for all schools. Accreditation teams, therefore, investigate and approve or disapprove facilities and cirriculum in educational institutions according to the criteria developed by secular educational administrators who may or may not be Christians.
Gospel Assembly Christian Academy has not sought accreditation by any governmental agency for several reasons. We would be required to use textbooks adopted by the state. Such texts are developed by secular writers who in many waysreject the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and in fact extol concepts contrary to the teachings of the Bible. (For instance, evolution versus creation -- Matthew 19:4). Furthermore, accreditation dictates that a school employ a cirriculum and teacher certification standards often inferior or in opposition to those of Christian institutions.
It seems unreasonable for Gospel Assembly to expect parents to withdraw their child from a government school with its academic and moral ills, only to place him in a private institution with the same cirriculum, methods, and objectives. Accreditation of a private Christian school is not necessary for a graduate who wishes to enroll in a college or university. Registrars of such institutions are interested in the academic merits of individual students, not in the name of their school of graduation. Thus they evaluate each applicant's academic aptitude through nationally standardized tests. The instructional program of Gospel Assembly Christian Academyis designed and implemented to properly train students who wish to continue their education beyond high school. The Christian school is the church in action! It is an extension of the Christian home in training young people for time and eternity in a Christian environment.
School staff work closely with parents to train the whole child. Attendance at Gospel Assembly Christian Academy is a privilege and not a right. The goals of our school are not to reform but to train Christian youth in the highest principles of Christian leadership, self-discipline, individual responsibility, personal integrity, and good citizenship. Gospel Assembly Christian Academy stands without apology for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the highest standards of morality and Christian behavior. Gospel Assembly Christian Academy is a ministry of Gospel Assembly Church. The school operates as the parochial arm of the church. The student body is limited to the families comprising the membership of, and in good standing with, theGospel Assembly Church. Membership in Gospel Assembly Church is open to all that God adds to the church, Acts 2:47, on a racially nondiscriminatory basis. Gospel Assembly Christian Academy Objectives for Christian Youth:
- To ensure that each child has come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, achieves a higher level of Christian maturity, attains a deeper commitment, and becomes a more effective witness for the Lord.
- To emphasize the individuality of the individual and to assist each child in properly responding to himself, and to others; to develop self-confidence, individual God-given talents and abilities in creativity, goal setting, forecasting, communications, academics and the principles of success.
